"I'm not that smart, okay? I just do what my heart tells me to do."
Okuyasu Nijimura believes that he is a very simple person. Growing up with an abusive father, dead mother, and incredibly controlling older brother, he learned from a very early age that whatever choice he makes would be the wrong one. This lead him to decide to follow his older brother's lead, even when it takes him into territory that conflicts with his own morals. Okuyasu looks to others to provide a moral and intellectual compass even after his brother dies, looking to Josuke for guidance constantly both in and out of combat.
Okuyasu is very aware of his perceived lack of intelligence, occasionally bringing it up in comments that are simultaneously self-deprecating and a way of deflecting the responsibility of decision making. After years of letting his brother do the thinking for him, it's difficult for him to step into the role himself. His first true choice is taken at the end of the manga, which is to turn away from what is implied to be his brother's ghost, and return to the fight and save Josuke.
Despite his upbringing, Okuyasu has stayed emotionally open, expressing his feelings and opinions freely rather than hiding them or taking the time to reflect upon them. Because of this, he acts mostly on impulse, something that gets him in trouble more than once. Whether it's jealousy of a friend for being the first to get a girlfriend or the simple pleasure at having ice cream before school, if he feels something, he feels it wholeheartedly.
Although Okuyasu is locked into indecision by major, obvious moral choices, he still shows kindness through his everyday life and a deep loyalty to those he cares about. When cured by Josuke, Okuyasu decides to help him, despite that going against his brother's orders. Additionally, his primary motivation through the series has always been to find a cure for his father, despite his father having become abusive in the years after their mother died. At first the search for a goal was in the form of finding a way to kill his father, as the mutation that had destroyed his mind was still keeping him alive. However, once Okuyasu realized that his father was still aware of some of what was happening, Okuyasu started looking for a true cure.
When in conflict with others, Okuyasu feels that the first step is to punch first and take answers later. This impulse is likely one that was encouraged by his older brother as it occurs less and less as Okuyasu spends time with Josuke. However, that doesn't mean that he becomes any less of an impulsively angry person, just that he starts taking the time to pause and ask Josuke if he should fight, rather than just attacking. Additionally, Okuyasu has shown a deep sense of vengeance, believing that certain deeds should be always repaid in blood. This sense of morality and vengeance extends to himself and his family as he expresses knowing that his older brother would have had to die for his actions.
When he isn't irritated with people, however, Okuyasu has a deep sense of curiosity. He is always willing to try new things, and is always looking for the reasoning behind things. This can lead to him being able to overcome his perceived lack of intelligence as he feels the need to poke at situations until he understands them. However, this can also lead him into trouble. Okuyasu can, has, and will follow his curiosity into situations that he will have to fight his way out of as well as situations that seemingly lead to his detriment.
In contrast to his seemingly childlike sense of morality, self deprecation when it comes to his intelligence, and difficulty managing his anger, Okuyasu is deeply self sufficient. He and his brother have been living on their own for years and it shows through in many of Okuyasu's mannerisms. Somewhat frugal, Okuyasu is living on his own savings while in school, and is able to provide for both himself and his father, as his father is in no way capable of caring for himself. Seemingly, Okuyasu manages his own budget, pays for his own bills, cooks his own food, and is stated to have five to six years of savings stored away.
Etc: Okuyasu has a power known as The Hand, an ability similar to Persona, with one major difference. While Personas all have multiple abilities drawn from a shared pool, a Stand will have one, unique ability. The Hand can destroy matter, any matter and the world will change to adjust as though the matter he had removed had never existed, pulling in surrounding air and items to fill the gap. As such, should Okuyasu chose to destroy the "space" between a person and himself, the person will come flying towards him. The effect is the same if he eliminates the space between a person and an object.
His primary use of this is to pull people closer to him so that he can punch them better. This is in no way as game breaking as it could be in the hands of someone with better tactical sense.
